August-Lain Weickert
August’s work is a conversation with loss, spirituality, queer identity, and personal lore.
His visual language is informed by a lifetime of Catholic education, his own pagan practices, body and self through the lens of transition, the overlap of histories and images over time, and memory (or lack thereof).
His practice is both a workbench and an altar. Pieces become tools for the creation of further work, incorporating the process into the art itself. Each piece becomes a “next in-progress”, leading to a practice of veiling and unveiling. Beginning then Beginning then Beginning Again.
